Purpose of the Role: To provide maternity cover as effective line management of the posts of Financial Accountant and Accounts Payable Supervisor ensuring a high quality, timely and accurate service from finance staff.


Role Dimensions: Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role will focus on financial accounting tasks to ensure the company’s three legal entities in UK, Singapore and US remain financially compliant.

You will be working within a small yet dynamic finance team.  The team is reviewing all processes and systems,and the role will require flexibility to accommodate these changes. The role will be based at the McLaren Technology Centre.


Principal Accountabilities:

Staff management

  • Managing the transactional team to meet the internal and external requirements
  • On hand to answer any queries relating to job specific questions
  • Set objectives and provide mid year and end of year reviews
  • Provide clear instructions and direction to employees


Year end

  • Preparation of Annual Report for UK limited company
  • Primary contact with external auditors
  • Responsible for completion of auditand tax packs
  • Completion of Group Reporting packs, with relevant IFRS conversion
  • Ensuring the transactional team meet Group deadlines


Month end

  • Ensure underlying ledgers are closed on a timely basis
  • Review ledgers monthly for accuracy and for completeness
  • Attend month end review meetings and provide insight into the month end numbers against forecast and budgets
  • Work with management accounting team to understand the costs incurred in the month
  • Contribute to monthly accounting for UK limited company and Singapore and US subsidiaries, ensuring that all aspects are conducted in line with latest accounting standards. Key areas include:
    • Accruals and prepayments
    • Tangible and intangible assets
    • Ensuring all control and other balance sheet accounts are reconciled


Accounts Payable

  • Responsible for all aspects of AP for UK, US and Singapore
  • Ensure the company’s liabilities are accurately reflected in the cashflow numbers
  • Challenge and work with the purchasing department to better our working capital position, and process efficiency
  • Provide weekly accurate cashflow analysis and management for the future spend expected, and challenge any assumptions
  • Authorisation of payments, payroll, and other required proceedures.  


Expense and credit card processing

  • Responsible for ensuring all expenses and credit cards are processed on a timely basis
  • Continue with the implementation of MiVision
  • Ensure best practice is being followed in the completion of expense claims


Bank accounts

  • Ensure cash books are maintained for all UK, US and Singapore bank accounts



  • Responsible for sign-off of all payroll submissions for UK, US and Singapore
  • Liaison with payroll providers on all legislative changes



  • Responsible for tax reporting requirements
    • US – Federal and State tax; Sales tax
    • Singapore – Corporate tax, GST, withholding tax
    • UK – VAT, corporation tax, P11Ds and PAYE Settlement Agreement including completion of tax pack
  • Review and update existing processes to ensure best practice is followed



  • Oversight of the inputs to weekly cashflow submissions for payments and receipts, and management of best practice.


Financial regulations and legislation

  • Keep abreast of changes and inform management of developments applicable
  • Implement changes as necessary


Process and control

  • Ensure all processes are documented
  • Continually seek to amend processes to improve efficiency
  • Ensure adequate control is implemented over all financial transactions
  • Support the SAP project with useful insight into current processes and controls


Other responsibilities

  • Ad-hoc analysis and project work
  • Ensuring the completion of Office for National Statistics surveys
  • Respond to technical queries as they arise


Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified
  • Experience of preparing company accounts and/or responsibility for running audits in practice, or in a financial accounting role in industry. If coming from practice, a demonstrable readiness to make the transition to industry.
  • Experience dealing with all aspects of UK tax, particularly VAT.  Desirable is an understanding of tax in the US and Singapore
  • Proven record working in a team
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of using a financial accounting software package
  • Good at questioning and spotting irregularities
