Engineering Solutions Analyst

Purpose of the role:
To be responsible for the technical support/development for all customer incidents, problems and requests for service/change, relating to PLM and Engineering Solutions Anchorused throughout McLaren’s group of companies.

The role is part of the Engineering Solutions function and this role will resolve incidents/problems and implement requests raised throughout the PLM application stack used across the McLaren Group. This role will have a good all round knowledge of CAD/CAE/PDM/PLM applications, processes, functions and their association with the IT infrastructure that underpins them. The role requires flexibility to work on different solutions and a methodical approach to problem solving.

Engineering Solutions indicative tools used at McLaren are;

  • (CAD) Computer Aided Design – Nx, CATIA V5, 3DExperience
  • (PDM) Product Data Management – TeamCenter, 3DExperience
  • (PLM) Product lifecycle Management – Bespoke systems, 3DExperience, SAP PLM
  • (CAE) Computer Aided Engineering – various including Abaqus, CCM+, Hyperworks, Dyna etc
  • (CAM) Computer Aided Manufacturing – various including DelCam, Vericut, PowerInspect

Role Dimensions: 

  • Reports to the Design & Engineering Support Manager
  • Close liaison with other support analysts, Engineering and PLM Process Owners, IT service desk and 2nd line IT support functions, Engineering Solutions end users
  • Liaison and support for external suppliers and partners as appropriate
  • Work as part of a team to meet and exceed the defined SLAs
  • Work closely with Business stakeholders to maximise the value of TeamCentre and Nx
  • Occasionally required to work out of hours (late nights / weekends)
  • Occasional travel may be required / remote working

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Involved in day to day activities around TeamCenter and Nx, examples include; advice and guidance on application functionality, best practice and data management; data exchange administration; hardware and software trouble shooting. Typically, this includes;
  • Answering and resolving calls to the Engineering Solutions service desk
  • Floor walking to provide end user assistance
  • Carrying out application administration and continuous improvements (small automations, reporting, upgrades, integrations etc)
  • Resolving compound issues (Root cause analysis) Problems and Known Errors
  • Educating to avoid user error (not following policy or guidelines)
  • Data integrity where applications and processes integrate into TeamCentre & Nx

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Working as part of the team to provide robust and maintained Engineering Solutions.
  • Involved in day to day support activities and continuous improvements of other tools and processes used within Design and Engineering 
  • Liaise and support 3rd parties who supply services for specialist products across the engineering solutions stake.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering/Computing degree or related business discipline
  • Good understanding of engineering tasks and association to CAD applications
  • TeamCentre experience (Support and/or Implementation experience)
  • Nx experience (Administration and Methods Development)
  • Knowledge of other PDM and CAD tools is advantageous but not essential
  • Knowledge of PDM – PLM integrations (BOM, Change Management etc)
  • Good understanding of certain technical skills, CAD Administration, SQL, Powershell, VBA, C++
  • Good Windows administration skills
  • Support experience (ITIL knowledge an advantage but not essential)
  • Managing customers to ensure that proposed changes meet or exceed requirements, are robust, tested, documented and introduced through controlled change
  • Understanding of engineering product life cycle is essential
