The Role:

The role of Engineering Manager is to manage and lead a Power Electronics team designing state of the art Inverters for use in Motorsport and Automotive, working closely alongside Product Managers, Project Managers and Technical Authority to understand and deliver against our product lines and our customer’s requirements.


You will actively manage the Power Electronics team to empower and foster delivery, setting clear team objectives and plans and delivering through Agile/SCRUM methodologies, sprint planning, backlog task grooming, effort estimations, burndown and velocity charts.



  • Strong people management skills, including setting clear goals, objectives and expected behaviours, agreeing development plans and regularly reviewing performance.
  • Develops team members in relation to their performance in the team, regularly reviews progress and undertakes performance reviews.
  • Allocates resources and forecasts resource and capability requirements for projects, liaising with key stakeholders.
  • Sets and organises the priorities and direction for the team.  Distributes work in line with project/ business requirements.
  • Plans and schedules multiple concurrent projects (may work alongside Project Managers) in line with business imperatives.
  • Anticipates and resolves problems in multiple areas of work - which upon occasion will involve power electronics debug and re-design when a design issue is verified.
  • Ensures solutions/ systems meet functional/sector safety standards, are completed to quality standards, timescales and budget.
  • Continuously improves processes, standards and tools for the benefit of the business and its clients.
  • Manages and communicates internal/external stakeholder requirements, resolves issues and makes decisions in line with business plans; ensures own understanding and that of the team.
  • Manages, delivers and takes responsibility for work that is outside the core domain.
  • May work directly with clients/ prospects, independently and/or alongside the Business Development, Product Management, Principal Engineers and Chief Engineers.
  • Provides guidance on different approaches to development and delivery of solutions/systems that could yield better results, actively mentors staff to increase quality.
  • Understands key processes within function and people management practices such as performance and absence management, recruitment and learning analysis and health and safety management.  Understands importance of diversity within team.


Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • First class degree or upper 2nd in relevant discipline, or equivalent experience, plus appropriate professional qualification.  Proven track record.
  • Understands skills and experience of team members and key processes in relevant business area.
  • Ability to manage workload across a diverse multi-disciplinary team.
  • Agile advocate with a thorough understanding of Agile software development methodologies, values and procedures (e.g. backlog, burndown, velocity, etc.)
  • Understands key processes within the function and people management practices such as performance and absence management, recruitment and learning analysis and health and safety management.  Understands importance of diversity within team.
  • Leads the team in the delivery of tasks and is an effective team member. Mentors team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent technical knowledge.
  • Prioritises, plans and coordinates activities across skills sets to maximise resource utilisation.
  • Power Electronics Engineering background ideally with Inverter, PSU and DC to DC detailed design experience.
  • Thorough understanding of the design process from concept and requirements capture through design, implementation and test, ideally within a ISO26262 / IEC61508 project environment
  • Model based software development in MATLAB-Simulink, LTSpice or equivalent
  • Knowledge of double pulse testing, solving EMC and shoot through issues.
  • Working knowledge of power module integration whether based uopn IGBT, SiC or GaN technologies.
  • Data analysis tools – e.g. MATLAB, ATLAS, Midas
  • Practical electronics experience (hardware design, implementation and test)
  • Functional Safety Engineering experience to ISO26262 / IEC61508 or equivalent
