Job Title: Engineering Manager - Engine

 

Department: Powertrain

 

Reporting to: Engine design manager                                                                                               

 

Purpose of the Role:

Reporting to the Head of Powertrain, to lead the team of Engine engineers and technical experts, responsible for research, engineering, integration, ownership & delivery of Engine components and sub-systems on all McLaren vehicle programmes. 

As part of a small, highly dynamic team, influencing concepts and delivering the application of existing & new technology on exciting new products.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Technical responsibility and detailed component and sub-system knowledge for all high-performance Engine components and sub-systems.
  • Responsible for engineering resource task allocation/prioritisation, recruitment, appraisal and performance management.
  • Lead the Engine team and manage internal technical simulation, design and analysis teams, and external engineering organisations and suppliers, to deliver to defined technical specifications in line with the Powertrain & Vehicle programme timing.
  • Lead the Engine team in the management and delivery of component and sub-system BOM, specifications, FMEAs and DVP and also cost, timing and quality targets.
  • Lead the technical assessment, integration and application of appropriate Powertrain technology.
  • Support vehicle programme attribute owners with respect to development and reporting.
  • Ensure the components interface seamlessly to the wider car.
  • Establish and control design release in line with ETRS requirements
  • Guarantee delivery of Engine components and system for all projects in line with MDP (McLaren Development Process) and that Project Management KPIs are on track.
  • Lead the Engine team in the execution and evaluation of results of component testing and to support powertrain & vehicle development activities and vehicle manufacturing, launch & planning.
  • Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • A high level of technical knowledge & experience of high performance engine component & system design, test & production.
  • CATIA V5 2D/3D skills preferred with strong GD&T application experience.                           
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products.                                                                                                                                                          
  • Experienced in OEM or tier one component delivery
  • Component & system design within an APQP or similar framework including FMEA, component planning and PPAP

 

Qualifications and Training

Engineering Degree 2:1 or above
