As Product Software Support Team Lead you will support team activities relating to the ongoing development and customer use of MAT products. This role is a reflection of MAT’s commitment to provide customers with cutting-edge and ever improving solutions from the MAT products they use. In this role you will interact with a variety of stakeholders ranging from internal business units managing customer projects through to direct customer support for specific components using the Control System Team’s software.

 

Broadly speaking these products will have already achieved their first delivery milestones. A key responsibility to the role is to ensure that the operational quality is balanced against improvement of product functionality. The team lead will manage interactions with customers and determine what critical actions must be taken to resolve problems and what avenues exist to undertake product improvement activities within the business. Key skills in this role will be:

  • To document user interactions and communications with customers
  • Manage milestones
  • Identify and resolve unmet needs and requirements
  • Analyse needs and requirements to produce feasible technical solutions
  • Produce estimation for effort to produce solutions
  • Manage work-breakdowns and task execution
  • Ensure adherence to the team’s development process
  • Provide solutions within the resources allowed

 

Specific Team Lead responsibilities include

  • Leads a team of direct reports (5-10 approx)
  • Directly manages engineers and performs performance reviews in line with company processes.
  • Is responsible for team member development (both professional and pastoral).
  • Supports team members by acting as a technical expert in the appropriate field.
  • Manages recruitment of new engineers in line with the Department Manager’s goals. This will include CV review, interviewing and support of company recruitment programmes.
  • Shares company vision and ensures that relevance to Team activity is understood and communicated.
  • Considers group requirements and toolsets and feeds these needs into the departmental manager.
  • Supports Business Development and Bid-Review process when required.
  • Supports and drives continuous improvement both independently and with support of the Department Manager.

 

In order to support the engineers within the team, experience and knowledge in some or all of the following disciplines will be required

  • Programming and scripting languages, for example C/C++, VHDL, Perl, ANT, Python;
  • Analytical Software, for example MATLAB, Simulink;
  • Embedded project experience, i.e. Embedded Development Kit, BeagleBone Raspberry Pi, Arduino
  • Version Control: Mercurial, GIT
  • Application development in desktop environment Windows, Linux.
  • Communication interfaces; SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, USB
  • Electronic hardware design, reading schematics, device datasheets
  • Microsoft Suite of productivity tools
