The Role:

  • McLaren Applied Technologies develop control electronics and software for high performance applications. As a Control Electronics Engineer, you will sit within the wider Hardware Design team;
  • You will design, develop and test new and existing electronics products for applications including motorsport, automotive and aerospace;
  • You will be responsible for the electronic design of computational platforms using multiple processors, external memory, Ethernet based communications, drive stages and analogue sensor interfaces;
  • You will undertake the full development cycle from specification, design, schematic capture, through to supporting PCB layout, manufacture and assembly operations while following and developing design procedures;
  • You will design to best practices in terms of EMC, thermal management, and product reliability;
  • You will reuse sections of existing designs where possible, customising and adapting where necessary.


  • Will have experience of digital electronic design for high performance multi-processor systems
  • Are able to mix digital electronic design with analogue sensor interfaces;
  • Have knowledge of how to optimise circuit design for ease of manufacture and production test;
  • Are able to take designs from concept through to market, working to challenging timescales;
  • Have a practical knowledge of functional safety standards such as ISO26262;
  • Are able to optimise component design to maximise efficiency, package density, reliability and thermal performance;
  • Can work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including hardware, software, mechanical and systems engineers;
  • Are able to engage with a broad range of stakeholders and work within a matrix organisation;
  • Have a first class or upper 2nd honours degree in a relevant electrical or electronic engineering subject, or equivalent experience.
