Principal E/E Architecture Engineer

To ensure McLaren Automotive continues its desire to be “the sportscar company”, we are looking for a Principal E/E Architecture Engineer to join our team.

Purpose of the Role: 

Working with cutting edge products, you will be able to concept and deliver your own designs and introduce your own ideas without limitations of benchmarks. This is a role that will push you to develop your engineering capability with a major influence on the product with direct input into the design of vehicle E/E System Architecture.

As part of the E/E Architecture team, you'll shape the future of our electronic systems, such as Hybrid Powertrain systems, Transmission and Chassis Control systems, HMI/UX and Body systems, ADAS, vehicle connectivity systems. With exposure to a variety of systems and platforms across programmes, you'll be involved in the design and implementation of the whole-vehicle E/E architecture, systems interaction, distributed functionality, of new McLaren Automotive products.

The work involves cutting-edge E/E platform technologies, with a wide and complex scope touching optimisation, robust design, functional safety, feature decomposition, network communication, diagnostics, cybersecurity, offering a great opportunity of personal and technical development.

Desired skills and personal attributes:


  • Electrical, software or automotive engineering degree 2:1, or above
  • Deep passion for Automotive E/E Architectures and Electronic Controls Systems
  • Proven ability to lead technical design teams for architecture design, and design from concept, new architecture systems/features
  • Multiple years experience in network and architecture design, at a senior / lead / stakeholder position.
  • Naturally technical, able to employ fundamental engineering principles
  • High self motivation, willingness to learn and develop
  • Ability to work as a team member and also confidently alone
  • Knowledge of automotive network protocols, e.g. CAN, LIN, Ethernet
  • Knowledge of AUOTSAR ECU design methodologies, Basic Software, tools and processes.
  • Good understanding of vehicle level system integration in terms of hardware and software
  • Knowledge of Electrical Distribution Systems, including circuit design, wiring harnesses, and power distribution.
  • Experience with Architecture design and analysis software tools, e.g. PREEvision, CANoe, CANdela, DOORS
