Driving Simulator Technician

Purpose of the Role:

To assist in the operation, maintenance and commissioning of the Driver-In-The-Loop (DIL) simulator.

About you:

You've got previous experience working on high-tech rigs, be that simulators or engine dynos. You're a technician or operator and used to working with DIL simulators and/or other mechatronic systems.

You're the kind of person who isn't shy about rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in. You're versatile and reliable, never one to leave a task unfinished, and you're looking for an opportunity to share your knowledge, but also learn and grow yourself in a team of driven and highly skilled people.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Preparation of the DIL simulator to support the test programme
  • Operating the simulator rig during testing
  • Defining, maintaining and actioning the simulator service/maintenance schedule
  • Logging and reporting of faults and working with the Simulator Development Project Leader to resolve such faults
  • Assisting with installation and commissioning of new test hardware
  • All of the above are required to be completed to a very high standard, often to tight deadlines and in a pressurised environment

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience of working with DIL simulators and/or other mechatronic systems incorporating electrical servomotors, motion platforms and real time systems (dSpace, xPC, etc.)
  • Experience in the preparation, use and maintenance of instrumentation, including analogue and digital sensors, signal conditioning and wiring preparation
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications and drawings
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

Desirable

  • Experience in the use of contemporary transmission, transient engine, brake system or similar dynamometers for a highly technical engineering function
  • Familiarity with the one or more of the following coding languages: C++, Matlab, Python
