Design Studio Technician - Clay CNC Machining

Location: Woking, GB

Purpose of the role:

As a Design Studio Technician, you’ll play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission statement to “Design breath-taking products that tell the visual story of their function”.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Be responsible for the smooth running of the CNC milling equipment and all Physical modelling requirements
  • Liaise with McLaren designers, CAS Team, Metrology, Concept Team and function groups to optimise efficiency of all Physical modelling
  • Build armatures and assist with clay model development
  • Creation of CNC cutting paths for clay and foam milling
  • Armature Fabrication (metal and woodwork)
  • Order and maintain all Studio consumables

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Solid OEM experience working in a Design Studio of an Automotive company
  • Thorough understanding of CNC machining (work NC software), cutting paths and all aspects of the clay modelling process.
  • Thorough understanding of 3D scanning systems, hardware and software
  • Excellent project planning skills
  • Good PC skills using Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint

  • Must demonstrate a high level of self motivation, initiative, flexibility and determination to see a task through to completion working within tight deadlines
  • Should be well organised and methodical, with excellent attention to detail
