Electrical Design Engineer

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is a dedicated division of McLaren Automotive that takes ownership even further through offering personalisation & bespoke commissions. Currently with a workforce of 125 dedicated individuals our aim is to create vehicles to a customer’s individual tastes

MSO provide everything from bespoke personalisation options through to building ultra-exclusive limited edition or one-off breath-taking models.

As part of our continued growth and passion to increase what we can offer our customers,  we are looking for an Electrical Design  Engineer to join our MSO Engineering team based in Woking.

Purpose of the role:

As Design Engineer, we want you to take ownership of the Design, development and release of innovative solutions for electrical packaging and wiring systems relating to MSO Vehicles.

You will be responsible for the Electrical system design (circuit design, Electronic control unit packaging), whilst also defining component and system specifications. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to join a growing team whilst having the autonomy to grow what we are doing from an Electrical perspective.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Creation of 3D models and drawings for supporting hardware including General Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Generation of schematics and 2d harness drawings in line with McLaren Electrical Distribution System standards
  • Design, develop and release solutions for the electrical package and wiring systems for our range of vehicles
  • Assist in hazard analysis and risk management, Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis, verification and validation planning
  • Optimisation of electrical hardware for minimum weight
  • Good understanding of automotive Design Validation Plan standards and able to assist with validation test plans from conceptual design through to production
  • Present design information to support both external and internal project status reviews
  • Adapt a hands-on approach during development/concept build phases

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent (min. 2:1 in an Engineering Subject)
  • Experienced in a CATIA V5 design environment. Familiar with design tools including the electrical harness workbench and the creation of detailed harness routes and feasible design solutions from conceptual phase to delivery
  • Sound knowledge of electrical hardware with ability to select and procure hardware components, fuse boxes and terminals etc
  • Understanding of automotive Design Validation Plan standards and able to assist with validation test plans from conceptual design through to production
  • Motivated to peruse own Continuous Professional Development
  • Appreciation for Quality Standards and understanding of quality processes
