Purpose of the Role

Key task of the role is processing and analysis of engineering data from wind tunnel, race track and rigs with focus on evaluation of data quality to improve the experiments performed. This will be done through the development of analysis capabilities realised by advanced software tools for processing, interpretation and visualisation.

Role Dimensions

The role of the data scientist in the Racing Technology team requires close cooperation with design and system engineers within the group as well as Application Engineering department to cover shared projects with focus on data processing from wind tunnel, rigs and track. Occasional travel to the TMG facility in Germany and race tracks around the world will be required as well as flexibility to work out of office hours and weekends.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Understanding of testing and experiments in wind tunnel, on rigs and race track
  • Development of strategies and software tools for data processing, analysis and visualization
  • Handling and management of data from various sources with standardized methods
  • Preparation of data analysis and detailed reports

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • You will need excellent analytical and mathematical skills
  • You will need to have effective communication, both written and verbal
  • A PhD or excellent undergraduate degree in a quantitative subject such as Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or Experimental Physics
  • Previous experience developing engineering or scientific applications using MATLAB or a similar language such as Python or R would be an advantage
  • Experience in the analysis of complex data sets to understand underlying behaviour
  • Deep understanding of functionality and limitations of measurement devices
  • Experience in motorsport aerodynamics and/or vehicle dynamics
