McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is a division of McLaren Automotive, responsible for the design, development and delivery of personalised and bespoke vehicle commissions, performance details and options, as well as overseeing and ensuring McLaren legacy vehicles remain road worthy and up to date.  MSO products and services represent world class McLaren offerings and in doing so provides McLaren owners with virtually limitless possibilities to tailor a car exactly to their needs and tastes.

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the MSO Engineering team as a Chief Engineer.

 

Purpose of the role:

As Chief Engineer for MSO, you will be responsible for the guidance of the efforts of MSO Design, Engineering, Attributes & Development towards a successful technical delivery of all MSO products.

 

You will have the unique opportunity to help MSO deliver the next generation of Bespoke Products and to increase the capabilities and capacity of what the team can deliver.

 

Principal accountabilities:

  • Be the ultimate technical authority for every aspect of the programme from concept, through to delivery
  • Hold responsibility and accountability for target setting and their successful delivery for all MSO products
  • Work with the wider MSO Team to support the complete vehicle component plan and high level plan
  • Work with Certification to define the MSO route to market that is suitable for the products and compatible within the field MSO operates
  • Define MSO specific durability cycle, and work with MSO development to efficiently, and effectively sign off all MSO products
  • Instil, promote and lead technical challenge in the team to enable differentiation in our products, including the use of alternative material and processes that might not be applicable for series programmes
  • Ensure compliance is embedded into the design throughout the programme
  • Lead the team to ensure digital design is delivered in line with all technical and design requirements
  • Manage changes and risk throughout the programme to ensure deliverables and targets are met
  • Provide technical guidance to the MSO engineering team and the wider team

 

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Experience in an automotive product development environment (ideally completed at least two full vehicle programmes)
  • CATIA V5, PC literate and at ease with MS Office products
  • Extensive experience within automotive product concept development and engineering collaboration
  • Component design knowledge supported by knowledge of GD & T.
  • A fundamental understanding of changes, and their impact on full vehicle programme delivery
  • Extensive knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and DFMEA, and able to provide leadership in this area
