Purpose of the Role:                                                                                    

 

Principal Accountabilities:

Surface Creation

  • Create SR0 initial theme surfaces to support feasibility studies to 'sketch' tolerances
  • Create Pre-SR1 surfaces of selected themes for proportions approval to 'sketch' tolerances
  • Create SR1 surfaces of selected theme for engineering feasibility to 'sketch' tolerances as a jelly mould.
  • Create SR2 surfaces for aero mule and first CAD models to 'concept' tolerances with curves-on-surface
  • Create SR3 surfaces for Design Director approval to 'pre-production' tolerances
  • Create SR4 surfaces for clay validation to 'pre-production' tolerances incl. all feasibility
  • Create SRF surfaces releases for production releases to 'production intent' tolerances

 

Surface Quality and Content

 

Workflow

  • Attend Daily Principal’s Task Allocation meeting
  • Receive Engineering hardpoint update notification from Studio Engineer with support from Digital Surfacing Design Principal
  • Retrieve input from Design with support from Digital Surfacing Design Principal
  • Maintain up to date reference data model for Zone (Alias)
  • Update zonal data daily for Persistent Digital Model
  • Send CAS surfaces to studio engineering for hard point verification as per McLaren standard.
  • Convert and send milling data to clay modellers, if needed.
  • Provide any reference CAS information (e.g. points) to assist clay development
  • Prepare CAS models for regular design and surface reviews
  • Apply colours to CAS surfaces to show which surface changes have taken place
  • Assign shaders to CAS data in line with VRED / UE4 pipeline MSL
  • Notify Digital Surface Design Senior that task is complete

 

Other Tasks

  • Escalate any conflicts of input to Concept Engineer or Digital Surfacing Design Seniors
  • Maintain up to date reference data model.
  • Ability to work closely with studio Engineers, designers, concept engineers, aero and CMD.
  • Prepare surface quality review files as needed
  • Attend project meetings and engineering reviews as requested
  • Notify Surfacing Senior that task is complete
  • Fill in SharePoint document to declare that the final surface is ready for release
