Buyer - Contract

McLaren Special Operations create cars around an owner’s precise tastes, and provide everything from bespoke customisation options through to building ultra-exclusive limited-edition or one-off breath-taking models.


Recently the MSO team has produced MSO X –  10 sportscars that emulate the look and feel of a McLaren 570S GT4 race car but are fully road-legal and MSO R; A bespoke commission of 2 cars specifically created around one customers specification. The company is now expanding its bespoke offering at a significant rate and is looking for a capable and driven Senior Buyer to lead the supply chain activities surrounding this expansion.


Our customers want the best in Automotive bespoke content and to ensure we can meet their expectations we are looking for a Buyer to join our Operations team on a 6 month contract.


Purpose of the role:

As Buyer, you will be responsible for the effective sourcing and procurement of a wide range of components for McLaren Special Operations projects. You will also be responsible for building and developing key supplier relationships and managing the supplier nomination process.


Principal accountabilities:

  • Life-cycle responsibility and autonomy for sourcing high quality, value for money products/components and services to McLaren, utilising robust and objective nomination and sourcing processes that represent best-in-class practices
  • Provide leadership and guidance in complex commercial and contractual relationships with a good understanding of legal contracts.
  • Establish relationships and long-term development plans with suppliers based upon common goals and objectives.
  • Ensure supplier requirements and concerns are fully understood and ensure these are fed back during the appropriate stages to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments (Quality, Engineering, Logistics, Production) to help drive quality principles and commercial acumen into every aspect of our business.
  • Engaging with Engineering so that you are seen as a key decision-maker and able to exert influence.
  • Setting of clear objectives and monitor performance of your suppliers and other functions within the organisation.
  • Strong support within purchasing aspects in case of escalations to ensure Business and Production continuity


Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook – advanced user
  • SAP environment knowledge or other MRP will be advantage
  • Ability to lead negotiations and support teams in the development of negotiations strategies for large and complex projects and for short term orders
  • Excellent organisational skills, deadline adherence and exceptional attention to accuracy and detail
  • Ability to create / lead and energise a team to deliver superior results, continuous process improvement
  • Results driven and the ability to deliver against aggressive targets to achieve the overall business objectives
  • Ability to play a lead role in contract implementation and management
  • Proven supply chain management and procurement experience
