Business Process Improvement Engineer

For the next 6 years as part of McLaren’s Track 25 plan, we are looking to invest £1 billion into Research and Development, leading to the launch of 15 all-new cars or derivatives during this period.

 

Purpose of the role:

Working within the Operational Excellence team for the Continuous Improvement of People and Processes across all areas of the business, the role will encompass delivering data driven improvements and leading complex transformational change. The emphasis being to adopt and champion initiatives and to align project workstreams to those of the team to ensure efforts present value to our business strategies and initiatives.

 

The primary purpose of the role will be to support, scope and drive projects and to promote process improvement opportunities through the collection and analysis of baseline performance data. Ensure that benefits are realised to improve the overall safety, quality, delivery, cost, people and plant performance and that project deliverables are sustained. Driving success by working with others to gain commitment, respond effectively and instigate new innovative methods. 

 

Following stabilisation, facilitate and participate in Kaizen / Rapid Improvement events. Train and coach plant personnel on the use of LEAN / Operational Excellence methodologies.
Full use and application of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques to optimise operations and the interaction between departments, to include

  • Lean Manufacturing 5S, Process Standardisation, Visual Management
  • Practical Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis using tools such as A3, Problem Solving, 4M
  • Process & Value Stream analysis
  • Data and graphical analysis
  • SQDCPE methodologies
  • Project management
  • The incumbent will build an in-depth knowledge of the end to end organisation, business processes, internal stakeholder roles and responsibilities via effective networking and learning.
  • Implements effective sustainable solutions for problems arising, or for any opportunities across the whole of the business. That includes; forecast and supply demand, goods receipt, warehousing, line replenishment, Body Assembly, Paint, General Assembly and End of Line product quality assurance processes.

 

Work to establish sustainable solutions and improvements of the Operation in the following areas:

  • Business processes
  • Systems and data platforms such as MS Office, Visio, ERP and interacting systems (SAP an advantage)
  • Cultural alignment to McLaren behaviours, values and business processes Metrics / KPI’s / Dashboards / Business process health indicators
  • Identify and utilise the skills and abilities of employees at all levels
  • Plan and implement capital projects and business cases in support of improvement plans; Planning, tracking progress, contingencies and evaluating outcomes

 

Principal accountabilities:

  • Provide essential support to operations to achieve SQDCPE daily targets
  • Implement Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement throughout the organisation by using appropriate

Lean principles

  • Communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Influence and partner with plant personnel on improvement opportunities
  • Facilitate (during zone meeting) Kaizen, Concern & Corrective Actions, Rapid improvement events, Process Mapping and Lean Manufacturing tools
  • Troubleshoot disconnects within Business Processes, Manufacturing, Quality, Assembly

and back office support issues, using data driven analysis as well as ‘on the floor’ interaction and ‘in the office’ interaction

  • Define, refine and improve existing processes including; Manufacturing processes/procedures, new process development, creation of process documentation, product design for manufacture and assembly, capacity, efficiency and floor design, production processing and problem solving

 

It is expected that the role will reinforce the lean manufacturing and built in quality principles. It will also expand to include an operationally focused TQM approach such that on-time as planned delivery of the correct quantity of vehicles at the correct quality is achieved daily.

As well as a manufacturing environment, MPC also acts as a marketing tool for the McLaren brand. As such delivery standards and material presentation, as well as workmanship and cultural behaviours need to be continually improved and maintained to very high standards. High personal standards and the ability to encourage and develop team behaviours is essential.

 

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Highly analytical and able to identify improvement opportunities from in-depth analysis of complex data sets
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) knowledge and application experience is essential
  • Strong process control and adherence focus
  • Tackles problems as opportunities in an enthusiastic, proactive, persistent and systematic manner
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Lean Sigma Green Belt Certified an advantage along with demonstrable documented evidence of a wide range of Business Process Improvement interventions
  • A strong team player but used to working autonomously
  • Highly motivated to achieve success
  • Adopts a positive approach to work
  • Excellent influencing skills and empathy
