Body Manager - GT

Purpose of the Role:


Lead all GT projects for the Body Engineering commodity group. This is including Body in White, Exterior Systems and Interior Systems.
Work within a matrix organization with direct report line to the Head of Body Engineering whilst delivering towards project based goals set by Sport Series Vehicle Line management leadership on multiple parallel projects.
Main Accountabilities:


Goal Setting and reporting

  • Working closely with Sport Series Vehicle line leadership team, the Body Engineering Management team and other relevant stakeholders define and implement goals for all projects under your responsibility.
  • Make sure goals are cascaded, communicated and reported against effectively at every stage of the project
  • Lead the Body Engineering team to deliver all systems in line with targets, KPI’s and milestones as set by the McLaren Development Process and Sport Series Vehicle Line management leaders, on multiple vehicle programmes with particular emphasis on:
    • Design and Engineering integrity to exceed quality, performance and commercial goals
    • Investment Budget - including internal and outsourced labour, tooling costs and supplier or internal D&D investment.
    • Timing – at every step of the design and development process.
    • Innovation – support, facilitate and deliver innovation into Sport Series Vehicle Line Body Engineering with regards to material, design, technology as well as development methodologies.

Problem Solving:

  • Make sure the 24 hour time upper limit standard is exceeded every time a Body Engineering concern manifests itself.
  • Engineering problems must be solved in line with the McLaren practical problem solving system including a robust understanding and dissemination of lesson learnt that are aimed at avoiding problem repetition and continuously improving our cars and the Company as a whole

  • Lead and develop your team to meet and exceed the goals set by the business.

  • Develop the relationship, framework and ultimately the capability of your external partners including a clear performance management process.

Team work

  • Promote, implement and support a Simultaneous approach to Body Styling, Design and Engineering where early engagement from all stakeholders is maximised in order to avoid late changes and delays in the overall process. This is clearly including internal stakeholders like Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, other Vehicle Engineering teams, Service/After sales, marketing, etc. and external stakeholders like suppliers, outsourced resource partners, etc.
  • As the main centre for subject of matter expertise, make sure the Body Engineering team works closely with support functions like supply chain team to monitor current supplier performance and develop future supply strategies.


Knowledge, skills and experience

  • An experienced automotive leader of direct and indirect teams.
  • Experienced in an OEM or tier one with a high level of BIW systems technical knowledge.
  • Proven ability in delivery project management within an APQP or similar framework.
  • Extensive experience in automotive product development or project leadership function
  • Experience of high volume and niche vehicle (low volume) programmes
  • Relevant Experience in Lightweight Body Design and materials technology
  • CATIA V5, PC literate and at ease with MS Office products.
  • Knowledge of Body Engineering Simulation and Analysis tools and processes
  • Sound commercial and financial awareness.


Qualifications and Training

  • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree
