Job Description

Data engineers at McLaren Applied Technologies build data-driven solutions using cutting-edge technologies. We need smart engineers who are passionate about technology to join our team and help us provide timely insight into data for our customers. Your technical expertise will help us to design, develop, test and deploy analytical solutions to complex industrial problems using large data sets. You could be developing a prototype to test out a new open-source data processing framework; working with our data science team to implement a machine learning algorithm at scale; or creating a data pipeline to ensure delivery of insight to a client in a timely fashion.


  • Help to implement tools and pipelines for analysis of large data sets, including creation of spikes to reduce risk.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers and Data Scientists to help implement robust and scalable applications.
  • Actively contribute to Agile ceremonies.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest open-source technologies.

Skills and Requirements


  • BSc in a highly-numerate discipline or practical commercial experience.
  • Proven experience in working with high-volume heterogeneous data including NoSQL, preferably with Hadoop/HBase or Apache Spark.
  • Solid Java experience and the ability to span languages as needed, depending on the data processing framework in use.


  • Experience with batch or real-time data processing frameworks such as Storm or Kafka.
  • Experience in developing machine learning models at scale.
  • Knowledge of data modelling, data access and data storage techniques.
  • Master's degree or higher in Computer Science.
