Application Development Engineer- Core Platform

Team

The Core Platform Portfolio Team, is based within the Edge & Control product proftfolio. It is responsible for the definition, implementation, integration and operations of all systems we deliver as a business. The team is involved in almost every project within MAT, across many markets. Most recently the they have worked on autonomous vehicles, instrumented sports equipment, wearable healthcare monitors, hybrid drive for motorsport, and automotive control systems for multiple motorsport series. As part of the team, you will have the opportunity and freedom to work directly with our customers, to design, architect, implement and test systems which are at the forefront of technological development, either in a technically supportive or leadership role.


The role

As an Application Development Engineer you will be responsible for developing and supporting embedded control system development in MATLAB/Simulink. You will develop and maintain embedded software in MATLAB/Simulink. Develop and run HIL, SIL and simulation testing. You will provide support at the track and customer factories for customers in several motorsport disciplines, including, standard ECU for F1, ECU for Formula E and WEC. You will provide support to customers developing their own software for MAT ECUs. Provide factory support for colleagues at the track during race weekends. Assist with improving departmental procedures and knowledge base.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent in a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience of the following tools -Data analysis tools such as ATLAS, ECU set-up tools such as System Monitor, Excel, generation of forms and  maintenance of VB macros 
  • Have a good understanding of the electronic elements of motorsport systems and powertrains, including the characteristics of typical sensors and actuators used in motorsport and communication networks.
  • Skills and expertise
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience of electric drives used in hybrid systems would be an advantage.
  • Have the ability to diagnose software and hardware problems under pressure. 
  • Have experience of working trackside in motorsport.

You will be based in Woking with access to the world-renowned McLaren Technology Centre. You will be within one hundred metres of a specialist within their field, whether it’s in design, modelling and simulation, software development, data analytics, electronics hardware, finance and marketing.
