For the next 6 years as part of McLaren’s Track 25 plan, we are looking to invest £1.2 billion into Research and Development, leading to the launch of 18 all-new cars or derivatives during this period. To achieve this plan £50 million has been invested in the state of the art McLaren Composites Technology Centre based in Sheffield, responsible for the manufacture of the carbon fibre monocell which is at the centre of all McLarens.

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven individual to join our Quality team as a Metrology  Engineer within McLaren Composite Technology Centre in Sheffield.

 

Purpose of the role:

In this capacity, your role and responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:

  • Support the implementation of the metrology strategy for Sheffield operations
  • Develop CMM programs for carbon composite components which meets McLaren Quality Management System requirements
  • Lead the day-to-day production measurement activities for the Sheffield facility
  • Manage the gauge calibration and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) system
  • Coordinate external measurement suppliers as required
  • Support new projects, including R&D and serial production with appropriate metrology techniques

Principal accountabilities:

  • Support all aspects of Metrology for the Sheffield facility
  • Apply analytical skills and judgement to generate solutions to technical measurement challenges
  • Deliver all aspects of Metrology process activities in line with targets, KPIs and milestones
  • Support the containment of Quality Concern Reports (QCR) within 24 hours
  • Support the resolution of Quality concerns using a structured approach to problem solving (8D or similar)
  • Build effective cross functional relationships and contribute to achieving a high-performance team environment

 

 

 

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Expert user of Modus software
  • Extensive experience with Co-Ordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)
  • Experience of contact scanning head CMMs
  • Experience in quality / metrology environment
  • Experience in automotive
  • Knowledge of Automotive quality systems is advantageous
  • Experience of niche vehicle (low volume) programmes desirable

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in automotive
