Lead Design Engineer – Energy Storage Systems

We’re in a period of unprecedented innovation in the automotive industry as we move away from conventional powertrains towards hybrid and eventually fully electric vehicles. We want you to join us on this journey. With your Design Engineering experience, knowledge and passion for electric drive and battery technology, you’ll be fully supported in developing your expertise in this valuable and sought-after field of engineering by a large team of highly qualified, experienced engineers and managers.

It’s a highly demanding part of our business due to it being the focus of our Track25 business plan. You’ll be leading the design and innovation of energy storage systems components including battery housing, cell, module, cables, and connectors from start to finish. As you’ll be in a Lead role, you’ll drive the innovation and creation, and leading Design Engineers all while juggling delivery of multiple programmes currently underway at McLaren Automotive.

McLaren Automotive is committed to being at the forefront of innovation, development, and investment over the next decade, and it’s our goal to produce an EV hyper-car by the end of the 2020s. To make this goal a reality, we’re rapidly growing our Electric Drive team, based between Woking and Sheffield. It’s crucial that we have a strong Lead Design Engineer to guide the creation of CAD models and assemblies across all of our programmes.

Working alongside some of the best Engineers in the Hybrid and Electric Drive industry and leveraging our unique alliances with industry partners and research institutions, we can help you to rapidly develop your career. The team is around 30 strong currently, and we’re expecting this to grow to over 70 in the next couple of years. And this growth means opportunity for you: opportunity for progression; to take on new challenges; and learn novel areas of technology as you help McLaren to innovate.

We need you to be an experienced Design Engineer with Catia v5 and GD&T experience. You’ll need to have worked on the design and release of moulded plastic and machined/ fabricated metal parts. It’s also useful if you have experience of designing cooling systems such as hoses, pumps, heat exchangers.
