With your knowledge of high voltage batteries, testing and passion for electric drive and battery technology, you’ll be fully supported in developing your expertise in this valuable and sought-after field of engineering by a large team of highly qualified, experienced engineers and managers.


It’s a highly demanding part of our business due to it being the focus of our Track25 business plan. You’ll be innovating, creating, and working with a large network of new and existing suppliers, while juggling delivery of multiple programmes currently underway at McLaren Automotive.


McLaren Automotive is committed to being at the forefront of innovation, development, and investment over the next decade, and it’s our goal to produce an EV hyper-car by the end of the 2020s. To make this goal a reality, we’re rapidly growing our Electric Drive team, based between Woking and Sheffield. The Test and Development Technician will be based at our new, state-of-the-art facility in Sheffield.


As a Test and Development Technician you’ll be supporting the verification and validation of the energy storage systems (ESS) to make sure it fulfils the performance and functional attributes. We want to be the best in performance and reliability and you’ll be crucial to achieving that. You’ll do this using simulation technologies (MIL/ HIL), and working closely with functional safety and vehicle controls teams, making sure verification is carried out suitable for all global markets and regulatory standards.


Working alongside some of the best Engineers in the Hybrid and Electric Drive industry and leveraging our unique alliances with industry partners and research institutions, we can help you to rapidly develop your career. The team is around 30 strong currently, and we’re expecting this to grow to over 70 in the next couple of years. We’re looking for you to have a good level of knowledge of ESS or other component testing, as well as an understanding of HV battery safety, charging, and standards. Knowledge of battery durability testing such as ageing, cycle testing, and storage testing is also useful.
