Powertrain Technician - Motorsport

Location: Milton Keynes, GB

As we begin this exciting journey we are looking for a Powertrain Technician to join our Motorsport Engineering function and help deliver our future championship winning GT cars. 

Purpose of the role:

The Powertrain Technician will operate in a development workshop and their tasks shall include: strip down donor engines, build sub-assemblies, build new GT engines, strip down and analyse used GT engines and carryout gearbox rebuilds

This role will encompass the full extent of race engine building from strip down of donor engines all the way through to PDI of the completed engine prior to delivery

Principal accountabilities:

  • Following proven processes on sub-component and full engine assembly and developing new processes to drive continuous improvement

  • Identifying problems and issues with engine builds to avoid failures

  • Precision/cleanliness in the engine’s build

  • Cleanliness in the workshop management/ maintenance

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Experience as an engine builder in automotive/racing environment (at least 3 years). Capable of rebuilding a complete engine

  • Detailed base engine knowledge

  • Experience in the use of measurements tools (hardness check, torque wrenches, …thermocouple, pressure sensors, engine timing clock)

  • Experience in mechanical analysis and failure analysis. Including reporting

  • Capable of reading engineering drawings (geometrical tolerances, sections)

  • Microsoft Office knowledge

  • Capable of developing/following detailed build processes

  • Experience in gearbox rebuilds – desirable, training available for this

  • Machining experience (milling, turning, welding) - desirable

  • Able to follow and to develop a plan

  • Knowledge of stock control systems
