Within the public transport and smart cities space we are working on a range of exciting projects utilising communication systems and data technology to help solve real world problems, whilst improving the commuter experience.



We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to architect solutions to keep our products two steps ahead of the competition. You will explore new areas where our systems could make a difference and contribute your knowledge to bids and proposals, helping us to deliver key projects above our customers’ expectations. You will be the technical expert in communication systems, helping to develop the team by sharing knowledge and mentoring staff where appropriate.


What are we looking for?

  • You will need to lead research from concept through to a feasibility proof, leading to the development in new technical areas within communication systems, generating IP as appropriate.
  • You will balance your time appropriately between technical leadership and  hands on development.
  • You will be able to architect solutions and ensure deliverables are capable of meeting long-term business goals.
  • You have a thirst for new technologies and an acute industry awareness to help spot gaps in the market, emerging technologies and be able to align our solutions with potential opportunities.
  • You will occasionally need to support the customer on site during the initial roll-out of key communications technologies.
  • You will be able to lead disruptive change in a positive way, whilst truly engineering solutions by thinking outside of traditional parameters. 
  • We believe in using the right technology for the job, if this means implementing new technology we will empower you to do it, in order to find the best solutions for our customers. 
  • You may need to assess new products, clients and markets, and represent the company externally in a thought leadership capacity.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Networking: Telco engineering, protocols, authentication mechanisms
  • Linux: Network stack (traffic control, IP route, netfilter), kernel development
  • Wireless & RF
  • Experience in programming within a Linux environment utilising C as a language of choice. 
  • Industry awareness and a depth of understanding to spot potential future business opportunities
  • You should understand agile ways of working and how to utilise them throughout a PDLC e.g. prototyping & testing.
  • Experience with virtualisation, containerisation, monitoring & reporting.
  • First class degree or upper 2nd in Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics, Operational Research, Computer Science, or other highly quantitative field (or equivalent experience).
