Variant Configuration Specialist

Purpose of the Role:

Responsible for translating Product Development’s concept of a new car into a functioning data model. Implementation of data models SAP systems, maintaining and unit testing. Supporting web based visualiser requirements, product change request implementation, build phases and production line operations.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Participates in meetings concerned with styling, proof of concept, gateways and project management, sales & marketing reviews and relevant cross-functional process meetings.
  • Creation of program specific Product Data Definition (PDD) file.
  • Designing the data model from the Design Intent Report and Options & Features list
  • Creation and implementation of data model from PDD to SAP.
  • Complete data model unit testing and sales order regression testing
  • Support web visualiser through sending Knowledge Bases and troubleshooting
  • Problem solving analysis with support from Centre of Excellence staff
  • Manage the root cause analysis and change request implementation processes.
  • Maintain non-project specific modelling e.g. country requirements and guidelines
  • Support engineering with prototype vehicle builds and the use of coding for the Bill of Materials (BoM)
  • Transport of models into all SAP environments


Knowledge, skills and experience

  • SAP experience, especially SAP VC experience, is desirable
  • Microsoft Office literate, including PowerPoint and advanced Excel
  • Knowledge of automotive manufacturing industry is desirable
  • Previous coding experience is advantageous
  • Graduate in a technical subject is desired
