Technical Delivery Manager - Cloud Platform

The team employs modern software tools to deliver scalable solutions that can provide timely insight into system behaviour and provide recommendations on the effect of interventions on the system. 

Given the breadth of disciplines within Applied Technologies, we are looking for an Technical Delivery Manager to join the following Portfolio team:

Cloud Platform - with the goal of empowering McLaren product development teams by automating as much of the repetitive actions required to develop a product, whilst benefiting from standardisation and consistency of tooling. The team is also responsible for the Telemetry Analytic Platform which is a major capability of the cloud platform. This sub-team is responsible for building products that service formula1 and other industries. 

The Role:

  • You will be required to collaborate with software engineers, and business analysts, as well as other technical and business disciplines, to plan and lead the delivery of software solutions across the full development lifecycle, in line with business imperatives.
  • Working as part of a team of Delivery Managers, reporting to the Head of Delivery, you will manage one or more agile delivery streams, typically to deliver a specific software product or service via a multi-disciplinary, highly skilled development team.
  • You will be adept at delivering complex cloud-based products and services, breaking down barriers for your team and both planning at a higher level and getting into the detail to make things happen when needed. You will have experience in delivering software products and services using the appropriate agile project management methodology, sprint planning, prioritizing backlogs, running retrospectives, learning & iterating frequently with continuous improvement in mind
  • You will work with the Product Manager to define the roadmap for any given product and translate this into user stories, and lead the collaborative, dynamic planning process - prioritising the work that needs to be done against the capacity and capability of the team
  • The position will require experience of matrix-managing a multidisciplinary team, removing blockers or obstacles to progress, negotiating with stakeholders and resolving resourcing issues to ensure that all products are built to an appropriate level of quality for the stage (alpha/beta/production)
  • You will actively participate in the Delivery Manager community, sharing and re-applying skills and knowledge and bringing in best practice.

Skills and Expertise 

Agile Team

  • Experience of Agile methodologies such as Kanban and Scrum, e.g. Scrum Master experience
  • Worked with teams that are not necessarily co-located
  • Experience in working with teams developing cloud-based solutions 

Delivery

  • Can demonstrate an understanding of team capacity
  • Understands how to manage risks  

Communication

  • Stakeholder Management – expectations, team capabilities
  • Upward communication – executive information sharing 

Product Management

  • Understands the importance of product backlog
  • Experienced in facilitating backlog prioritisation and its quality 

Technologies / tools

  • JIRA
  • JIRA Portfolio (Or similar team and backlog management tooling)

Qualifications/Experience

Degree in the field related to Technical Delivery, preferably in computer science, engineering or maths

OR

Verifiable relevant experience working within Agile Teams as well as leading Agile Teams
