The role

To manage technically complex product and solution development with a high degree of customer and supplier engagement on behalf of the Strategic Partnership Business Unit. You will ensure that projects within the Programme are delivered on time, to budget and to the required quality standard on behalf of the Project Board. There are no direct reports or function budgetary responsibility however you will be responsible for the project budget of active projects within their portfolio.

You will manage and motivate project teams internal to McLaren and on behalf of commercial partners by the application of project engineering and delivery processes. Manage programme deliverables with full accountability for the project budget and margin including the development and maintenance of appropriate project and product release plans. For each product, manage McLaren’s investment budget during the incubation phase and help prepare the budgetary estimates for full investment. You will provide leadership, giving scope, delivery framework and process guidance to teams to ensure successful delivery. 

Lead customer stakeholder management for the project or programme with clear communication and active management of risks, issues and opportunities. Ensure appropriate engineering frameworks and best practices are followed eg concurrent engineering, software Agile methodologies, v model for safety critical applications etc.Lead the planning and start-up of projects, both internally (eg resource requirements, cash-flow considerations) and externally (eg customer stakeholders, suppliers). Support the final stages of pre-sales activities to ensure that the project scope, goals, methodologies, deliverables, and business case have been appropriately defined.

Understand the technical deliverables to a sufficient level to engage in discussions covering customer requirements, prioritisation, issue identification and scope. With support from discipline team leads, ensure that the technical requirements for the project are fully understood and managed. Work with Resource owners to manage and resolve potential resource conflicts. Assist in planning future staff, skill and tool requirements. Project governance & stakeholder management - present monthly reports defining progress, exceptions and solutions.

Requirements

  • You will work across multidisciplinary teams to lead delivery of digital product development within a Commercial Partnership. 
  • A good commercial understanding to correctly position customer engagement, task facilitation across the partnership and coaching skills are important within the role.
  • A good understanding of client engagement, programme management, digital product development and engineering best practice. This includes product lifecycle management from concept creation to delivery and support.
  • The ability to guide a multi-disciplined engineering team consisting of Business Analysts, Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Performance Specialists through a milestone based product creation process to deliver innovative products is vital.

You may be required to work unsociable hours to accommodate project demands. 

Skills and expertise

  • Engineering degree qualification or equivalent combination of education and work experience in engineering, computer science or software development.
  • A combination of strong commercial and engineering acumen with relevant experience. 
  • 5+ years’ experience in programme/project management/team leadership in product development with a significant background in digital products
  • Proven ability to deliver mixed discipline engineering solutions in a dynamic environment with significant experience of development planning in collaborative environments such as Atlassian and MS VSO as well as traditional stage gated processes.
  • Ability to thrive in an environment of constant change with complex stakeholder relationships evident in partnerships.
  • Proven ability to work both across and vertically in medium size organisations.
  • A good knowledge and application of methods, tools and applications in a high-tech Engineering business.

You will be based at our unique offices in the South Bank area of London. The building boasts spacious offices and meeting rooms, a gaming lounge and stunning views of London. Some travel to the McLaren Technology Centre (Woking, Surrey) will be required.
