We are currently looking to recruit a Development Instrumentation Engineer who will be responsible for delivering Development Vehicle Instrumentation and Electronics systems.  

Purpose of the Role

  • To work as part of the McLaren Automotive Development Team. 
  • Primarily definition and execution of all test instrumentation to our fleet of development vehicles.

Role Dimensions: 

  • Development Instrumentation Engineer will report to the Rigs and Data Acquisition Manager and be responsible for all aspects of controlling the activities of the Development Acquisition team on multiple parallel projects
  • To work with other Engineers and technicians on the integration of instrumentation onto prototype & development vehicles.
  • To update group records of all Development vehicles with the level of instrumentation each vehicle is running. Confirmation of equipment calibration, including record keeping and measurement uncertainty of our master reference equipment.
  • To assist with vehicle testing activities and the analysis of data using automotive tools.
  • Schedule and balance conflicting workloads and demands across multiple vehicle projects.
  • Test data safety (backup, synchronization, sharing etc), software updates and configuration.
  • Travel will be required.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Must be able to demonstrate broad knowledge of current and future automotive technologies and processes.
  • Able to demonstrate extensive experience of Acquisition methods and technologies within the test and development arena.
  • Capability to develop and create new tests on new technologies where no test standard currently exists.
  • Be able to apply detailed technical knowledge to the understanding of new technologies, development of engineering designs and resolution of engineering problems.
  • Good understanding of automotive electronics.
  • Vehicle CANbus networking, management and diagnostic knowledge is beneficial.
  • Should have extensive experience in motorsport/prototype/low volume/high performance vehicle manufacturing, assembly and operation.
  • IT literate and highly competent in the use of multiple packages and platforms.
