Development Testing Engineer

To ensure McLaren Automotive continues its desire to be “the sportscar company”, we are looking for a Development Testing Engineer to join our Vehicle Development team. You'll be performing engineering activities for high-performance road car development testing programmes, managing and monitoring the overall vehicle testing programme at our site in Idiada, Spain.


Role Dimensions:


Reporting to the Idiada Manager, the Development Senior Testing Engineer will be based at the McLaren testing facility, within the Idiada proving ground in Spain. Regular travel and out of hours activity required in support of development attributes sign-off.
Principal Accountabilities:

 

  • Responsibility for planning, preparing, monitoring, analysing and reporting of activities related to vehicle development tests (DVP).
  • Under prior agreement with the Idiada manager, the tasks listed below can be carried out through the coordination and the supervision of a support team of Development Testing Engineers, who will report directly to you

 

  • Main tasks:
    • Test planning: definition of the day by day test plan (including instrumentation, vehicle configuration, and consumables/spares plan), according to the resources and facilities available to execute the requested activities.
    • Engineering coverage of the testing activity: ensure the correct level of support for the testing, defining and ensuring availability of the Development Testing resources, in terms of engineering, technician support and test drivers.
    • Monitor the execution of the plan, revising and making contingency plans as required.
    • Analysis of the data acquired to monitor test progress/evolution, and diagnose issues.
    • Managing test efficiency and timings: capability to minimize the vehicle downtimes and the testing costs, with quick problem solving and strategic decisions.
    • Vehicle Issues and failures during test execution: accurate and quick first level diagnosis and related reporting through the McLaren IT tools.
    • Additional Reporting: daily test status update reports and periodical updates of DVP status.
    • Develop a team of engineers offering support and guidance and identifying training needs and opportunities.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

 

  • Engineering degree (min II.I) or equivalent, and a robust grasp of engineering theory
  • Significant experience in an automotive test and development environment
  • Experience of any or all of the following areas:
    • low volume, high performance vehicle programmes
    • delivery of whole vehicle development programmes, from concepts through to series production
    • a broad range of vehicle data acquisition, test and analysis techniques
  • Be able to apply detailed technical knowledge to the understanding of new technologies, development of engineering designs and resolution of engineering problems
  • Must be proficient with all common Microsoft Office applications including Project
  • Must be proficient with Data analysis tools such as: Canape, Atlas, INCA or DTS Monaco.
  • Matlab experience is preferred.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
